Through the Tax Law Institute, the State Bar of California certifies attorneys as specialists in taxation, estate planning, trust and probate. Attorneys who want to become certified must complete 45 hours of education in their specialty field during the three years prior to applying for certification. Those already certified must complete 60 hours of education every five years in order to maintain their certification and comply with State bar requirements.
